Sock yarn glove knitting pattern

This weekend I made a slouch hat and was trying to find a pattern so I could make matching gloves. A free glove knitting pattern seemed rather elusive, so I designed my own simple sock yarn glove pattern! If you knit this pattern and find any problems, let me know. :)

  1. Great pattern and I'd love to knit it - but I'm having trouble with this line. I think there's something missing. Is it possible you could clarify?

**Rem 16sts will be the index finger. At start of round, 1st using backwards loop method, then k index finger until desired length** (I'm not sure what "1st using backwards loop method" applies to).

    Thanks so much for posting!

  2. Thanks for the comment. I've changed the line to 'Make 1st using backwards loop method' and included a link to this technique. Make sure you post back to show me your gloves!

  3. Hurrah, you're back! Love the look of these sock yarn gloves. I've lost two pairs of handknitted knits for hands in the past month and so I need to get knitting some for myself.

  4. thank for this useful pattern. I've just tried to work out my own glove pattern for knitting in the round, with some leftover sock yarn. My next pair will be a lot neater!
    Thanks again.

  5. Happy to find this - I found the Patons Kroy a little too heavy for socks for my taste but not until I bought many balls on sale. I'll make them into gloves and love them.

Having problems with the numbers in the pattern. After increasing to 72 stitches, you start the placement by putting 16 stitches on waste yarn. The increases actually end up with 17 stitches, so the final numbers do not add up. This throws off the numbers for the rest of the pattern. Could you please take a look at this and advise?

  9. Pick up 2 stitches – if you don't know how to pick up stitches, do a search on it. Lots of viseos and tutorials.

  10. I am having a problem understanding the Place Thumb directions. I repeated rounds 13 and 14 until I had 72 stitches. On the "Place Thumb" direction, if I k27 sts, place 16 stitches on waste yarn, and k to end of round, I will have 56 stitches remaining, not 54. What am I doing wrong? Also, do you have instructional photos or a video? It would help me visualize if I could work along with photos or a video. Thank you.
